EUCLID CONFERENCE AND COUNCIL IN THESSALONIKI
From the 23rd till the 25th of October EUCLID’s first conference European LIS-schools took
place in Thessaloniki, Greece. The topic was the adaption of LIS-education to the Bolognadeclaration. More than 70 participants from almost 20 European countries took part. In
connection with the conference, the EUCLID-council was held.
NEW BOARD ELECTED
At the EUCLID board-meeting in Thessaloniki a new board was elected. Ian Johnson
stepped down from his chairmanship and also Sonia Makulova (Slovakia) and Mersini
Kakouri (greece) resigned after having served for two periods in the board. The new board
consist of: Chairman: Ragnar Audunson, Oslo University College. Board members: Gerda
van der Molen, The University College of Groningen, Alexander Roos, Hochschule für
Bibliothek und Informationswesen Stuttgart, Assumpcio Estivil, University of Barcelona and
Audrone Glosiene, University of Vilnius.
Ragnar Audunson is professor in library and information science at Oslo University College.
He was elected member of the EUCLID-board in 1999. He is also a member in IFLAs
Standing Committee for Library Theory and Research.
Gerda van der Molen Gerda van der Molen comes from The School of Information and
Communication at the Hanzehogeschool Groningen, Netherlands. She was elected a
EUCLID board member in 1999, and is now in her second period.
Alexander Roos is professor at Fachochschule Stuttgart, where he teaches and performs
research in fields such as business information management, knowledge management,
electronic business. He was elected board member in October 2002.
Assumpcio Estivil is professor of library science at the University of Barcelona. At present
she is dean of the Library and Information Science School. She is also a member of the
Standing Committee of the IFLA Section on Education and Rraining, and she has been a
member of the Standing Committee of the Section on Cataloguing for several years. She
was elected board member at the council meeting in Thessaloniki in October 2002.
Audrone Glosiene was also elected board member at the council meeting in Thessaloniki in
October 2002.. Audrone Glosiene is head of the department of library science at the Faculty
of Communication, Vilnius university.
The most important initiatives 2003-2004 will be:
The ALISE/EUCLID conference on LIS-educations in a period of continuous change,
Postdam, July 31 – August 1, 2003
Following up the Thessaloniki-conference by initiating network-building and cooperation
in the field of European curriculum development. A workshop aiming at promoting this
goal will take place in the last half of 2004 or the first half of 2005.
Develop the BOBCATSSS-concept.
