Position for:
GRANTHOLDER
Characterisation of nanoparticles in
complex matrices and nano-particleprotein interactions
In the frame of the "Ciência sem Fronteiras" program
(CsF), the JRC is offering an opportunity for a
Brazilian researcher to work in the filed of synthesis
and characterisation of nanoparticles and their
detection in complex matrices.
The post is located in the Nanobiosciences Unit, whose
mission is to carry out innovative and targeted
research for a better understanding of the properties,
fate and effects of nanomaterials. This knowledge
underpins work on the safety assessment of
nanomaterials, and reinforces the unit's primary policy
support activities, including the provision of
circumspect opinions to EU decision makers. Support
is sought within a project developing materials and
methods needed for the implementation of EU
legislation regarding nanomaterials, such as the
definition of 'nanomaterial' and labelling requirements
for nanomaterials in consumer products. The methods
and processes developed aim at synthetizing
nanomaterials and characterising their physical,
chemical, biochemical properties that have a potential
impact on biological interactions and their stability in
time.
The project includes the use of different separation
techniques (e.g. disk centrifuge sedimentation, Field
Flow
fractionation)
and
characterisation
of
nanomaterials by physical chemical techniques such
as Scanning and Transmission Electron microscopy,
Dynamic Light Scattering, Zeta potential, XPS etc.
Qualifications:
These grantholder contracts are aimed at postdoctorates researchers holding a doctoral degree
equivalent to CNPq’s Post-Doctorate fellowships in
foreign countries (PDE) in a field relevant to the JRC’s
scientific activities.
Requirements:
PhD in chemistry, physics, materials science or
equivalent.
Good knowledge of electron microscopy and
spectroscopy techniques.
Strong experimental, hands-on experience in the field
of (nano) materials characterisation.
Very good written and oral communication skills are
essential, as well as very good written and spoken
English language skills.
Advantages:
Good hands-on experience with TEM would be an
asset.
